Getting Into Cushions…

For those beauty savvy people landing on todays post, you won’t be surprised about the recent addition of cushions to your everyday routine. A concept that has altered the way we apply our foundation, gone are the days of the humble pumps, instead you’ll find yourself dabbing your brush or sponge into a cushion.

Initially when I first saw cushion foundations launch I was a tad perplexed. Do these just get dirty? How do you control application and is the formula really that great? A few brands have jumped on the cushion trend, not only with foundations but also blushers too but one brand that stood out was Lancome. I’ve been a fan of their bases in the past but eager to give their latest cushion offer a try I got stuck straight in!

The Teint Idole Ulta Cushion Foundation delivers up a medium coverage base that is undetectable on the skin once applied. I’ve been using shade 02 Beige Rose* which is a perfect match for my fair skin tone without leaving me feeling like Caspar the Ghost. Application wise I’ve gone in with my much loved Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Brush as it’s more stiff brush head picks up the product with ease allowing it to be blended into the skin to give that seamless finish without loosing any coverage. Whether it’s redness, blemishes or uneven skin tone, this foundation masks those imperfects with ease whilst leaving a youthful and glowing finish.

Alongside the foundation there is also a blush option. The Blush Subtil Cushion Blusher is the same concept, you get that pigmented blush shade direct from the soft & bouncy cushion and it’s cream finish gives a healthy yet natural glow. I’ve got the shade 025 Sorbet Gen* on my cheeks today and as you can see from the photo you get a lot of product out of the cushion. I’ve been dabbing the excess off on the side of the packaging and then applying with a soft and fluffy brush  before blending with my fingers to ensure there are no harsh lines.

Although the blush takes a bit of work to find the right balance of pigmentation, I adore the foundation. My only gripe is that I’m already starting to feel like the cushion is either drying up or running out of product. This is either due to the fact it’s been used daily or the cushion holds less product but considering the price point sits at the same of a normal pump based foundation, I’m hoping it’s down to the fact this has been my daily foundation pick.

Have you tried out any cushion products? Are you on board with the cushion life or prefer a standard pump foundation?
