Essential Primers

essential primers

Primers – that ‘non essential’ stage in your makeup routine that I’ve vowed in the past to never need however find myself gravitating towards on a daily basis. You see, I get the premise, if you looks after your skin & have a stella routine in place you don’t need a primer as your complexion won’t naturally eat away at your makeup throughout the day. I’m totally on board with that theory and get it, however I also love primers. I love that extra step to hydrate my skin and boost those radiance levels. When I go in with foundation it’s been a solid 10 minutes since my AM skincare routine took place so I find that reaching for said primer helps to keep my skin in check.

There are two types of primers that I typically reach for, hydrating & radiance. None of those silicon ‘filler’ types over here thank you very much! My most fave is hydrating. Those primers that feel like a moisturiser, are light on your skin and glide over any dry patches to keep them at bay. The Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer does just this alongside boosting sallow skin that may have overindulged in the bubbly the night before. Then we have my one true love, the Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer. I’ve been through half a bottle, I adore it and so does my skin.

The second type of primer I dabble in are those that fall under the category of radiance. Typically these primers sit within the pearlescent side of the family lifting lacklustre skin whilst bringing back that glow. For a soft focused finish on top try the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer. It blurs out imperfections alongside being available in this super cute mini size, perfect for those on the go. Really want to boost that luminosity? Grab the Dior Glow Maximiser Primer* that works under foundation to hydrate whilst providing some serious glow. This is a summer essential!

What are your favourite primers to use? Which ones do you reach for on a daily basis?
