After our magical four days in Santa Monica we packed up our little box Kia and drove down the packed 405 to Huntington Beach. Right on the ocean you can find this surfers paradise nestled between Seal Beach and Newport Beach. Offering crisp white sand, more fire pits then you can throw a s’more at and a bustling highstreet full of bars and restaurants, we drove up to the Hyatt Regency ready for five nights of pool relaxation.
The resort we stayed in was huge, catered for big American families, conferences and weddings, it may have taken us a good 15 mins to first find our hotel room but once you saw that view of the ocean from the balcony, it was all worth it. Whilst staying in Huntington we took the opportunity to capitalise on the relaxed atmosphere and spent a couple of days in front of the pool lapping up the warm sun and comfy loungers.
Being in Huntington means you are a short drive from South Cost Plaza a mall that even gives Westfields a run for its money and also Fashion Island in Newport. I manned the steering wheel and with the help of Sat Nav Daisy it was incredible easy, and quick, to get around. I highly recommend getting a car (hardly anything is walking distance) and found it a breeze to drive around, even on the big interstate roads. We were also 20 mins away from Disney and headed over on the Friday thanks to some freebie tickets from my friend Nat.
Although we managed to pick the day the park was open for 24 hours alongside kicking off their 60th anniversary celebrations, it was a fantastic atmosphere and it’s impossible not to have fun in the land of Mickey the Mouse. At Huntington you can spend your days going on beach walks with the sun setting alongside indulging in cheesecakes. I even had my very first In n Out burger! It was the perfect way to see out our California adventure.
