So You Want to Get Into Makeup

so you want to get into makeup

So you want to get into makeup? Where do you actually begin? With drugstores filled with a bevy of budget beauties, beauty halls bursting with luxury items and don’t even get me started on the niche brand you can find online, makeup is everywhere! Don’t get me wrong, this makes me very very happy, but when you are just starting out – where do you actually begin?

Thinking back to my teenage self who used to slap on thick orange foundations, I defiantly know where not to start ;) When you skin is young, let it breathe. It can be easy to think you need to apply everything in sight but, speaking from experience, this only makes your skin worse. Instead pick yourself up a couple of key items that you can mix and match to create a wearable yet natural look.

For base a great starter foundation is the L’Oreal True Match Foundation. Giving a buildable finish that can range from light to full depending on what you need, this is one of the most foolproof foundations I’ve used and lasts all day once applied. If you need to amp up the coverage try out the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. It’s creamy finish doesn’t stick to any dry patches and although it’s slightly higher up the price bracket, you only need a tiny amount to cover blemishes and imperfections. Blend that all out with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush and you will be left with one flawless base.

To bronze and/or contour it has to be the Soap & Glory’s Solar Powder. The most versatile bronzer I’ve used this gives a super natural colour that can be concentrated into the hollow of your cheeks for that illusive Kim K look. Teamed with the Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in 15 Seductive Pink* you get that Hourglass glow but for a fraction of the price. When it comes to eyes I think one of the best starter palettes is still the Urban Decay Naked Palette. An utter classic you get a mixture of shimmers, mattes, bronzed hues and darker smokey colours that means you can mix and match for a daytime look or vamp it up for an evening smokey eye. When you pop the Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara after, say hello to super long and voluminous lashes.
