Last Sunday myself and my parents donned some of our posh lunchen outfits and headed across the capital to the Shard. The occasion – mum’s birthday. With a special day to celebrate we figure this was the perfect excuse to spend the day enjoying great food and company in the tallest building in the EU. After perusing menus and deliberating options we booked in for the three course brunch at Aqua. A set price you get a sizable menu and a darn good view over the Thames.
Starters came in the form of soup (parents went for lobster Benedict) and this was not any ordinary soup, hello toffy popcorn! Your plate is presented to you with just the popcorn and chestnut squares in place, the rich and creamy butternut soup is then poured over the dish right in front of you. Paired with warm and crusty sourdough bread it’s match made in soup heaven. Considering it was a Sunday I couldn’t not go for the roasted lamb. Teamed with veg, roasted potatoes and a whopping great big Yorkshire pud (just how they should be) this was simply delicious.
Managing to squeeze in a spot of desert before lent started it had to be the rich dark chocolate pecan pie. With crisp short pastry and chocolate filling it was the perfect sweet treat to complete the meal. Overall the experience was really lovely – perfect for a special occasion. Yes the final bill wasn’t the most purse friendly option but considering the views, ambiance and service, you get what you pay for. I would defo head back here for drinks and would love to see the view at night with all the city lights lit up over the skyline.
