In a bid to ‘drugstore up’ my makeup collection I went on a little spree the other week with the sole purpose being mascaras. Wanting to tryout the newbies and see how they faired up in comparison to my all time favourites, it was time to put them to test and see what came out on top. I’m not overly fussy when it comes to mascara – with naturally long lashes I go for volume enhancers as opposed to lengtheners, therefore I like to switch up what I’m using to see how voluminous I can make those lashes go. Time to get testing!

Maybelline – housed in a baby doll pink tube the Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara promises to coat each individual lash so they are left looking luscious and full for only £5.99. Kicking things off on a positive note, out of the three pictured above I would have to call this my golden star. Helping to bulk out the flutter this gives volume and length all without drying up or going clumpy. One of the cheapest I found this gets two big thumbs up from me.

L’Oreal – although this isn’t a brand spanking new launch it’s one of the most recent mascaras to hit the L’Oreal counters. Miss Manga holds a slightly heftier price tag of £8.99 and initially would have been my top pick, that was until the weeks went by and the dry out begun. Such a shame as the brush and formulation worked wonders on my lashes but now I have to fight to get product out. Not something I wish to do on a daily occurrence!

Rimmel – the brand that I go to for all my shadow, liner and mascara needs this is one of the first times I’ve felt really let down by Rimmel. Their Wonder’full Mascara may only be £5.99 but even at that price tag I don’t think it’s worth it. Marketed to condition your lashes with feather-light volume this didn’t give lift, length or any va va voom. Instead I felt that my lashes looked short and stumpy even though the brush looked to be oh so promising. Rimmel, call this a dud and fingers crossed the next mascara launch storms the market!
