Best of Week: Makeup

2014 makeup favourites

Get ready for the big bumper pack edition! It’s official, this blog post comes with a warning *may contain large quantities of the word love followed by the use of brilliant and gorgeous* Makeup was always going to be the most hefty post as it’s where my heart lies – yes skincare is great but nothing beats a beautiful eyeshadow palette brimming with buttery neutral shades. Cosmetics is where it’s at so settle down, grab a comfy blanket and enjoy my bevy of makeup favourites from 2014 :)

NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia – if someone poised me with the question ‘what is your favourite eyeshadow from 2014’ my answer every time will be NARS Himalia. Although it was a late discovery it’s been worn on an almost daily basis, so much so there is a little dent in the middle of the pan. Thats love people! Worn wet or dry you are given intense colour that blends on the lid to give a gorgeous bronze wash of colour. No smudging or creasing in sight, a pricey number this is worth every penny.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush – why oh why didn’t I pick up an Hourglass blush sooner? Goodbye Laura Mercier Peach Whisper – hello Luminious Flush! There aren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe how beautiful this is, from it’s finely milled texture to it’s flattering shade range you get a heck of a lot of product but I can still see me using up every last piece.

Paul & Joe Liquid Eye Liner – 2014 marked the year I became a full time liquid eyeliner wearer, it was hit and miss in the beginning all until this Paul & Joe liner graced my lids. Those tricky applications, smudged finishes and dodgy flicks quickly became problems of the past. Something about the flexible and finely shaped nib coupled with intense black colour makes eyeliner a breeze to apply – yup you read that right! This liner is so good in fact I’m on my brace yourselves third one *applause*

Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Concealer – with my red and angry skin fluctuating throughout 2014 I was on the hunt for a concealer that packed some serious coverage. MUFE HD Concealer, Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer & Amazing Cosmetics Concealer were all swatched but each felt thick, heavy and sat on my skin. Yuck. On a whim I tried out the Kat Von D offering and it was a match made in heaven. Full coverage yet super light and blendable in constancy – all that without a doe foot applicator keeping it bacteria free – win!

Josie Maran Coconut Water Eyeshadow – when it comes to best makeup innovation it has to be this unique shadow. A coconut water eyeshadow made of 50% coconut water, I kid you not. Intense colour pay off in a single swipe this glides onto the lid to give a luminous finish. Not only that it hydrates your eyes in the process, so good I picked up two ;)

Maybeline Color Drama Lipstick in Berry Much – again a late discovery in the year however hands down my most worn lippy. A matte shade from my much loved purple spectrum this is moisturising to apply yet doesn’t stick to any dry bits. Not only that, for a drugstore product it has some serious lasting power and sticks to my lips throughout the day.

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base – although my shadows have a tendency to crease it was a makeup ‘issue’ that never bothered me, this was until I needed my shadow to last. Instead of looking for one of those bases that totally whites out your lid and sits heavy for the rest of the day I opted for something light, easy to apply but did the trick. After using up an entire tester size of this NARS base there was no question that a repurchase was on the cards…in the full size bottle!

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes in Fair* – most favourite posts featured on AGAABB include an under eye concealer. It’s no secret that me and my dark circles aren’t the best of friends therefore on a daily bases I give a rotation of lighteners and brighteners the job of masking them. This year this Smashbox Pen stood strong as it’s mixture of concealing yet lightening properties teamed with a lightweight finish worked perfectly on those sleepless mornings.

Benefit Gimmie Brow Gel – finally a brow product and very apt considering 2014 was the year I finally paid attention to my brows. Yes they usually got waxed and threaded but any more attention? Too much effort in my books! Instead I got hooked on this brow gel as it gives colour, shape and definition for those that can be bothered to faff with their brows. Worn alone or over a shadow/pencil this helps to keep them in check with minimal effort.
