It is time – hold onto your hats as we are about to embark on a week long excursion which will show you all my beauty favourites from the grand old year of 2013. To kick things off we are starting with the skincare category, probably my most important category for the year. This is where the majority of things changed for me and there are a few key items that have worked their way into my daily routine and without them I honestly feel like I would be lost. Each of them are pretty darn great so to pay thanks here they are in all their glory!

Pixi Glow Tonic – this was the biggest skincare game changer. Before Pixi Glow Tonic was in my life I had very little knowledge of chemical exfoliators and the toner stage of my skincare routine was, useless. I would use a manual bead exfoliator once a week thinking that this was the best option even though it would leave my sensitive skin red. After being shown the light I binned the beads and picked up the liquids. Since using the Pixi Glow Tonic twice a day my skin has become clearer, brighter and the overall texture has improved. All hail the chemical exfoliator!

Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm* – I’ve heard a nasty little rumour that this wonder pot is going to be discontinued and boy I hope not! Not the most essential part of my skincare routine I save this balm for occasions when my skin is flaring up or in need of some TLC. A tiny amount warmed into your hands and massaged into your face not only creates the most relaxing aroma, it helps my skin to restore itself to a state of balance and calm. This has made the cut into my ultimate favs as I know I can rely on this balm to clear up and fix any nasty blemishes.

Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque – 2013 also marks the year when I got myself into a mask routine. Triple threat facials on a Sunday, midweek boosters, you name it I have become a mask junkie. Although I have tried out a number of masks over the past 12 months this is the stand out winner. A clay based mask that almost sets on your skin before you remove it, this gives my skin a complete detox and helps out any areas of irritation or blemishes. A joy to apply and use I can see this mask being a constant addition to my skincare routine.

Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil* – I honestly never thought I would be an oil girl. Growing up with oily skin and doing everything in my power to keep things matte and shine free, the thought of applying an oil every night seemed counterproductive. How wrong was I as ever since using this divine oil from Aurelia my skin has looked brighter and more hydrated. This oil is lightweight and sinks into your skin and is a product I look forward to using each night. From the fragrance to the results it leaves, this is hands down the best skincare oil I have ever used.

Boots Botanic Ultra Calm Skin Relief Serum – Best budget beauty buy for the skincare category goes to this beaut. My cheepy saviour that has seen me through burnt skin a la too much holiday sun, dehydration and lacklustre skin. Containing a magic ingredient of marshmallow this helps to calm my skin down whether it is red, irritated or just having a bad day. Either worn alone or under a moisturiser I am already on my second bottle which proves the level of love I have for this serum.
