Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise

This item, and subsequent blog post, has been hovering around the ‘questionable’ stage for quite a while. I have been waiting for a eureka moment to spring into action but instead I have had no such luck. Welcome to ‘I just don’t get it’. Here I find myself with a much hyped and hard to get hold of beauty product (sold out in the States as per a lot of the good stuff) and I haven’t fallen head over heels for it. Quite the contrary actually, I honestly don’t think I really like it.  It’s innovative, promises 14 hours of colour and hydration and contains the infamous coconut water, but here I am holding my hands up and saying, sorry beauty World, this one is not for me.

Josie Maran is a brand all about eco-chic beauty. Everything the company produces is natural and socially responsible and is infused with 100% Pure Argan Oil. The oil itself is a company bestseller and beauty award winner, and the Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelée has been praised in mags such as Allure. From the packaging to the shade selection (Poppy Paradise is a warm toned bright pinky/red) I thought I was onto a winner but as soon as you starting swatching all your dreams of holy grail status start to slip away.

My issue with this product is the colour. Beautiful in the glass pot yes, but non existent on your cheeks. When I buy a blush I kinda expect some colour payoff (shocking I know), but these gelées give you the limited side of natural. I also find this product impossible to blend. Similar in terms of the Benefit Benetint, it almost stains your skin so once applied, it can’t be moved. I wanted to adore this product and scoot it to the top of my blush list but instead it has fallen to the back of the draw as I really just don’t get it.
