Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Tinted Balm in SB02 – £38

Next up in the ‘Let’s Talk Bases’ feature is the much hyped Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Tinted Balm. I bought this more out of curiosity and because of the hype then anything else, it is a rather pricey number and was my first foray into the brand of Kevyn Aucoin. The shade I picked up is SB02 which is one of six and the second to lightest offering. Now as you can probably tell from the introduction to this post, I am not overly sold on this tinted balm. Thicker then a tinted moisturiser but not quite as heavy as a foundation, I find this sits somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. As it is more of a balm consistency I prefer blending this in using my fingers or the Beauty Blender.

Trying to articulate my feelings towards this base is proving to be rather tricky. I don’t hate it, yet I don’t love it and reach for it instantly everyday. Yes my friends, we are sitting in the rather disturbing bracket of indifferent. One of the hardest brackets to sit in when trying to formulate an opinion to share on a blog. For something that has been so overly hyped and with the higher price point, maybe I just expected too much from it. It hovers in the matte to dewy category in terms of the finish and it covers pretty much everything you would need it to. Even though it ticks all the boxes it doesn’t wow me.

Upon reflection I think the problem is that if I want a light coverage I would opt for the Diorskin BB Cream, however if I was looking something a bit heavier I would immediately reach for my old love, the Origins Plantscription Foundation*. I don’t have a niche for this to fit into so unfortunately it ends up being pushed aside. It might be one of those foundations that annoyingly you just have to try out to see how you feel. What a pain I am!
