Primers are a staple step when it comes to my makeup routine. When you spend the time to go through the stages of foundation, contour, blush, eyeshadow, you don’t want to step out of the house only to find it all melt away within a couple of hours. To prevent this from happening I have a few favourite primers are on permanent rotation. Why so many? Well similar to my skincare I like to have primers with different properties so that depending on how my skin is behaving or which look I am trying to achieve, there is a primer to suit. The above four are my top picks and staples that get me through every primer emergency.

Out of the four selections above, my most used everyday primer is the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Oil Free. This helps to add moisture to my skin whilst keeping my makeup in place all day. I have almost used up this entire bottle which shows how much I love it. Come rain or shine (even in Winter or Summer) I can count on this primer to get me and my makeup through the day. A few people don’t get on with the Oil Free version of this primer but it works perfect to prevent my T-Zone from getting too oily and it doesn’t clog up my skin or pores.

My second most used primer is the MAC Prep + Prime Fortified Skin Enhancer in Neutralize (that’s a mouthful!) This used to be the only primer that I had and I got it to cancel out the redness in my cheeks. This is a yellow based primer and for someone whose skin can get quite red, this works perfectly to balance out the redness and neutralize the skin. Any days where my skin is slightly redder then normal or if I have any blemishes that are particularly red, this does the trick to help them blend away.

The final two primers are ones that I use for specific occasions. The Avon MagiX Illuminating Face Perfector* is one that I go to when I want to add highlight to the skin. A small bit of this primer dabbed on the high points of your face and you instantly get a dewy glow where it has been applied. It really does illuminate the skin and I love using this when I’m going out or for a special occasion. The Benefit That Gal Brightening Face Primer* is similar to the Avon Primer but is a pinky coloured primer. I use this all over my skin when I want to add an extra glowy oomph, for example in the Summer. This primer gives a bit more life to my skin and sometimes I mix this with the Laura Mercier Primer for the best of both worlds!

Do any of these primers make it into your favourite picks? What are your favourite primers?
