illamasqua skin base foundation review

i picked up this little beauty from Sinead over at Dainty Dolly Mix when she was selling it. i was debating whether to try out this foundation for a while so when i saw her selling it i couldn’t resist!

Sinead was selling shade 07 which she said was too dark for her but suitable for nw20 skin which i am so i took the plunge to try it out. im glad i did as the colour is perfect (and before you ask it fits into my group of foundations that are my colour as opposed to being far too dark :P)

the first thing i noticed about this foundation (and it might sound a bit strange) is that the bottle is tiny! i dont know why but in photos it looks a lot bigger then it actually is. this retails for £25 for 30ml which is on the higher side compare to mac’s studio fix fluid which is £19.50 for 30ml

so onto the stuff inside the bottle. this foundation does not contain an spf which is good for foundations to use on a night out so you can avoid that evil ghostly face. with my birthday coming up i wanted a foundation to use without an spf so i will either be wearing this one or my mac face and body depending on how my skin is looking on the day

this foundation is very easy to work into the skin but found you really dont need a lot otherwise it can easily look quite streaky. my flat top kabuki from sigma is perfect at buffing this into the skin. the foundation also carries around the cult beauty balm qualities aiming to ‘smooth, soften and condition your skin whilst providing natural, buildable coverage’ i would call this a fair to medium coverage. it does not instantly cover all my redness or spots as say studio fix would but on days where i do not need as much coverage this does a great job

as you can see this provides a natural dewy finish to the skin and yes of course i powder afterwards but if you like a dewy glow then there is no need. after powdering i then use macs fix fluid and this foundation doesnt last too bad throughout the day. around lunch time its pretty much gone from my nose and shiny nose is out in full force, but for the rest of my face the staying power is a bit better. towards the end of the day my t zone is pretty shiny and a lot of product from that area has been lost, but as it isnt too heavy the damage doesnt look that bad

so overall? i am pretty happy i bought this product and have enjoyed trying it out and the finish it gives me. its not something i would reach for every day, maybe just times when i dont want an spf or dont need a full work day lasting foundation. it helps to give you that ‘im not wearing foundation look’ so is perfect for those days =)
